Raymond Hernandez, 74, of Andrews passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 in Odessa.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM Monday, July 9, 2018 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery. Raymond was born on December 11, 1943 in Lubbock to John Hernandez and Maria L. Gonzales Hernandez. He was raised in Lubbock and attended Lubbock High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and attended school at Odessa College. He moved to Andrews in 1964, and he married Virginia Lee Barron on April 18, 1992 in Andrews. He had worked for ARCO Oil and Gas for 17 years as a roustabout and pumper and Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) for 17 years, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and collecting knives and guns. He loved to barbecue and cook for family and coworkers and was known for his brisket. He was a member at Calvary Baptist Church and attended Grace Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Bonnie Earhart, brother, Pasquale Hernandez, and sister, Rosa Hernandez.
Raymond is survived by his 7 children, Ruth Ann Mendoza of Amarillo, Ray and Lisa Hernandez of Albuquerque, NM, Johnny and Julie Hernandez of Lubbock, Cyndi and James McCrary of Odessa, Billie and Steve Gurney of La Pine, Oregon, Brian and Shanon Jefcoats of Andrews, and Cassie Jefcoats of Andrews; 3 brothers, Thomas and Janie Hernandez of Lubbock, Johnny and Mary Hernandez of Lubbock, and Joe and Melinda Hernandez of Lubbock; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
