Claude Lee Horton, 82 of Andrews, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Andrews.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 201 NE 2nd Street, in Andrews Pastor Brant O’Connor officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 PM – 7:30 PM on Wednesday at McNett Funeral Home. Claude was born on December 11, 1935 in Abernathy, Texas to Joe Douglas Horton and Nancy E. Lee Horton. He was raised in Whitharral, Texas and grew up working on the farm. He graduated from Whitharral High School in 1954. He married Betty Lou Mixon on March 20, 1955 in Whitharral, and they moved to Andrews in 1958. Claude went to work for Honolulu Oil Company, which later became Amoco. He had served as President of the Amoco Union for this area and was a member of the Amoco Annuitant Club. He worked for them for over 30 years of service and retired as a drilling and work over superintendent. He continued to work for Key Energy Services, Oil Field Fishing and Rental, and was currently working for S & S Fishing and Rental. He enjoyed being involved with his children and the youth in the Andrews community. He had coached Pony League Baseball, had managed for several years the City of Andrews swimming pool, and had worked for the Andrews County Youth Recreation Center. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where he had served as Director of the Senior Adult Class for 31 years and had served as chairman of the youth committee. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Gerald D. Horton and Billy Horton, and 2 grandsons, Carson and Travis Horton.
Claude is survived by his wife, Betty Horton, of Andrews, 2 sons, James Horton and wife, Heide, of Gardendale and Brad Horton and wife, Gina, of Andrews, 3 grandchildren, Meredith and Bridget Horton of Gardendale and Rodger Horton and wife, Melanie, of Midland, 4 great grandchildren, Lydia, Haylee, Travis, Jr., and Dorian Horton, all of Ashland, Wisconsin, and granddaughter in law, Brianna Horton of Ashland, Wisconsin.
