William A. Placke, 85 of Odessa passed away Saturday February 4, 2012 at Hospice House in Odessa.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Andrews West Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Mr. Placke was born May 30, 1926 in Lincoln, Texas to Herbert and Amanda Placke.  He graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1943. He Joined the US Navy June 6, 1944 and served until June 3, 1946.

He worked as a Drilling Superintendent in Alaska for Arco until 1981 when he retired and moved to Odessa. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger and he was a member of the Texas Rifle Association.  William loved to work on all kinds of things and he could fix just about anything.  One of his very favorite things was family gatherings that involved food.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vernie Underwood.

He is survived by one niece, Linda Morgan of Odessa, Texas and several great-nieces and nephews.
