news_griefTootie Shoemaker will hold a grief recovery and after-care program in the community each year. Tootie Shoemaker is a native Texan and was born in Sweetwater with family members residing in Andrews over 50 years. She and her husband, Larry, have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Both she and her husband are graduates of Andrews High School, and Tootie holds both a BA and MA Degree in Education from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. In addition, she has also completed 30 semester hours in counseling from Texas Tech and UTPB and certification from The Therapon Institute of Christian Counseling. She is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Andrews. Following the death of their son, Tootie attended grief recovery classes, counseling, and read extensively on the subject of dealing with grief and loss. Learning to live with her own personal sense of loss, she is now focused on reaching out to others who are trying to cope with the difficulty of finding what she refers to as “a new normal” following the death of a loved one.
